The Municipality of Prizren and UNDP start a Project to Promote Sustainable Tourism and Economic Development
In a joint effort to promote Tourism and Private Sector Development, the Municipality of Prizren and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo signed an agreement to implement a project that will serve to promote tourism and enhance economic development in the city.
This agreement, which marks the official start of the project, was signed by Mr. Nuno Queirós, UNDP Resident Representative and Mr. Shaqir Totaj, Mayor of Prizren Municipality.
On this occasion, Mr. Queirós emphasized: “Our goal is not just to increase the number of visitors but to ensure that the growth in tourism translates into tangible benefits for the local economy and the private sector which is of crucial importance. By revitalizing traditional business models, we aim to build a resilient economic foundation that can adapt and thrive. This latest partnership complements cooperation dating more than 10 years between UNDP and the Municipality of Prizren and is a testament to what we can achieve together. I strongly believe that jointly we will unlock the full potential of Prizren as a leading destination for sustainable tourism and economic development”.
In his statement, Mr. Totaj highlighted the importance of the project: "The development of tourism in Prizren is a good opportunity to stimulate economic growth and the creation of jobs, increasing the residents' quality of life. Investing in the tourist infrastructure and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Prizren necessarily attracts visitors and strengthens the local economy. The priority of tourism development is in line with our aspirations to become a well-known destination, contributing to the regional development and international recognition of Prizren".
About the Project
The Promoting Tourism and Private Sector Development Project is a year-and-a-half-long initiative funded jointly by the Municipality of Prizren and UNDP. The results of the project will be two-fold: design and implementation of a tourism promotion campaign showcasing the rich cultural, historical, natural, and experiential assets of Prizren to attract more visitors, and support the growth and development of the private sector through the revitalization of traditional business models, and the reinforcement of commercial identity that will be facilitated through UNDP’s methodology of "In Motion”.
