Germany investigates links to Serbia and Poland after drone with explosives in Leipzig

In the case of the drone incident in Leipzig, Germany, German investigators are reportedly looking for leads to Poland and Serbia.

According to information obtained by Der Spiegel from security sources, one of the suspects identified so far is linked to another incident – ​​an arson attack on a hardware store in Lodz, Poland, in July 2024.

The man is said to have ties to Russian intelligence services.

According to the report, investigators are also looking into possible links between the Leipzig incident and a discovery of explosives on the Serbian-Hungarian border.

There, on June 11, Serbian security forces arrested two men carrying parts of a modified drone, a control transmitter, and two canisters of explosives.

According to sources close to the investigation, the ingredients are similar to those found in the drone discovered at Leipzig Airport.

Even there, the explosive was hidden, for example, in a tin can attached to the drone.

The men arrested at the EU border, a Serb and a man with Serbian and Russian citizenship, are in custody.

According to Der Spiegel, German security authorities are currently investigating possible links between the two men and a person who also plays a role in the Leipzig case.

On the evening of August 4, a drone carrying explosives was discovered at Leipzig Airport.

Several Ukrainian cargo planes were nearby. The airport is considered a hub for deliveries of military aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia.
