Better Conditions for Marginalized Communities through Recycling
Financial literacy, and effective business management skills are essential for entrepreneurs like Sabedin , from Gračanica/Graçanica. Sabedin is part of the group of 50 informal waste collectors from the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities participating in USAID’s Recycling Matters Activity. The initiative aims to establish sustainable community recycling systems by increasing the amount of recyclable waste while fostering socio-economic cohesion among community members.
Taking a proactive stance towards sustainable socio-economic integration, a two-day training course was conducted to provide valuable insights on the benefits and procedures of business formalization, financial literacy, and successful business management. USAID’s Recycling Matters Activity raised awareness about health hazards associated with waste collection and handling. The training also underscored the importance of protective measures that collectors can implement to ensure their well-being and that of their families. Addressing the multifaceted needs of waste collectors, the Activity also covered the advantages of immunization, offering valuable information to enhance the overall health and resilience of the waste collector community.
The commitment of Recycling Matters Activity in Gračanica/Graçanica extends beyond waste management boundaries. It is dedicated to fostering positive change in the lives of marginalized communities through sustainable recycling practices.
