A Green and Just Transition: Up to 280 Vulnerable Families to Benefit from Energy Efficiency Measures
The project “The Inclusive and Just Pathway to 2030: Green Energy Future”, financed by the Government of Denmark (DANIDA) and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and the Energy Efficiency Fund, provides energy‑efficient home improvements for vulnerable households. The initiative aims to improve home energy efficiency, while raising public awareness and encouraging long-term sustainable behaviour.
Across municipalities, up to 280 vulnerable homes are on their way to becoming warmer, more comfortable and more energy‑efficient. Energy efficiency investments include improvements to the building envelope, such as insulation of external walls, roofs and ceilings, as well as the installation of high‑efficiency windows and doors. These measures are expected to significantly improve living conditions, and contribute to a greener future.
Beneficiaries were selected from the list of social assistance recipients, based on criteria defined by cross-institutional experts through dedicated workshops. These criteria include households with a higher number of pensioners, persons with disabilities, households headed by single parents, members of non-majority communities, larger families with more children under the age of 18, and households whose primary source of energy is coal, electricity, or wood. Additional considerations included women-headed households and balanced geographic coverage across urban and rural areas in all seven regions.
The project aims to complete energy efficiency measures in 140 homes in 2026 and expand its reach to approximately 280 households by 2028.
This project represents an important step toward building a more just and sustainable energy system, one that ensures no one is left behind on the path to sustainable development.
