The Polim Museum in Berane is now accessible to everyone

The Polimski Museum Berane has completed accessibility upgrades, meaning its premises and exhibitions are now accessible to all visitors, regardless of physical limitations.

The work was carried out as part of the InclUSivE HERITAGE project, funded by the European Union through the IPA III Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro (2021–2027). The project is implemented by the Polimski Museum Berane as the lead partner, in collaboration with the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje.

“A new inclined ramp with a handrail has been built at the museum entrance, enabling wheelchair users, the elderly, and parents with strollers to enter the building independently and safely. Inside, platform lifts have been installed on the staircase. These allow wheelchair users to move between floors and tour the entire museum exhibition,” note representatives of the Polimski Museum.

Museum staff have undergone training on operating the new equipment and providing support to visitors with disabilities, as well as sensitization training.

“The museum belongs to everyone. We want everyone who visits the Polimski Museum to be able to experience it fully—without barriers and without needing to ask for assistance at the entrance,” the museum states.

With this investment, the Polim Museum becomes one of the more accessible cultural institutions in the north of Montenegro, which is a concrete step towards making the cultural heritage of Polimje open to all citizens and visitors.
