MIND Park in Kragujevac becomes the first brownfield eco-industrial park in the Western Balkans

The European Union (EU), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and MIND Park signed an agreement on the establishment of the first brownfield eco-industrial park in the Western Balkans, to be developed in Kragujevac. The goal of this pilot project is for MIND Park to become a fully integrated eco-industrial zone and an example of sustainable industrial development, in full accordance with the EU environmental standards.

- The development of MIND Park into an eco-industrial park represents a key step for sustainable industry in this region. With the support of the EU and IFC, a modern industrial zone is being created, which will enable more efficient production, improved waste management and better integration of industrial processes with the local community. - said Darko Djoric, general director of MIND Park.

MIND Park, which covers 190 hectares and employs over 3,000 workers, will apply advanced methods to reduce the negative impact on the environment, while strengthening industrial synergy among companies operating within the park.

- This initiative shows the commitment of Serbia and the whole region to the green transition and modernization of industry - pointed out Plamena Halacheva, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia.

IFC will use its global experience to support the private sector in adapting to international environmental standards and improving competitiveness in the global market.

The establishment of this eco-industrial park is part of the wider strategy of industrial de-carbonation of the Western Balkans, with the support of the European Commission through the Investment Framework for the Western Balkans (WBIF).
