Funding regional cancer research

The Western Balkans Fund is proud to support regional scientific cooperation through the WBF Move Grants.
As part of this initiative, we facilitated the mobility of Dr. Marjana Petković, a distinguished researcher from the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences near Belgrade, who is contributing to groundbreaking research on cervical cancer.

Her visits to the Research Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology “Georgi D. Efremov” at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and to the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Tirana, enriched the study by fostering knowledge exchange and enhancing collaboration between leading research institutions in the region.

The research, titled “Complex Targets Proteins Involved in Ribosomal Biogenesis and RNA Splicing in HeLa Cells,” has been published in prestigious scientific journals, marking a significant contribution to cancer research and regional academic excellence.
