New ECMI Kosovo project in the field of reproductive health

On May 1, 2021, ECMI Kosovo started the implementation of the CARES 2 project - Cross-Border Activities in

Reproductive Health Sector 2, which aims to improve the quality of services in the reproductive health and raise public awareness of the importance of protecting and preventing breast and cervical cancer, with particular attention focused on vulnerable groups in Dukagjini region.

The project is funded by the European Union under the IPA Mali Cross-Border Cooperation Program Montenegro - Kosovo * 2014-2020, while the Contracting Authority for the project is the Ministry of Finance and Social Welfare of Montenegro - Directorate for Financing and Contracting of EU Assistance.

The total project is over 350,000 euros, of which the European Union has contributed about 300,000 euros, or expressed as a percentage of about 85% of the total cost. The value of the project for Kosovo is 140,000 euros, of which the European Union is financing 119,000.00euro.

The main activities of this project include: procurement of equipment for public health institutions, training of medical staff on the use of new equipment, training of medical staff on related topicswith the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast and cervical cancer, the organization of a school for pregnant women with prior training of nurses for this type of support, examinations prevention of breast and cervical cancer in urban and rural areas, information campaigns on the importance of reproductive health protection including media activities and publications on the importance of preventive examinations, organization of camps and workshops for young people, lectures for women about reproductive health, cross-border roundtables, etc. The project is a continuation of the activities of ECMI Kosovo in this area which aim to contribute to the improvement of human health in Kosovo.

The CARES 2 project is implemented in partnership with FORS Montenegro. Place of realization includescommunes Andrijevica, Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Gusinje, Petnjica, Plav, Podgorica, Kolasin, Mojkovac, Rozaje and Ulcinj in Montenegro and the municipalities of Peja, Istog, Klina, Deçan and Gjakova in Kosovo.
