The Institute of Kyiv School of Economics published an annual report on the damage caused to Ukraine in the war started by Russia. As of February 2023, the total amount of damage caused to Ukraine's infrastructure as a result of a full-scale invasion of Russia has increased by another six billion dollars to $143.8 billion. According to experts of the "Russia Will Pay" project conducted by the Kyiv School of Economics, losses in areas such as infrastructure, education, energy, transport, trade and healthcare continue to grow.
According to the results of the one-year war, the damage in the field of infrastructure is estimated at 36.2 billion dollars. During that period, more than 25,000 kilometers of state and local roads and 344 bridges and overpasses were destroyed or damaged. According to data from the Ministry of Community Development and Infrastructure of Ukraine, during 2022 traffic on state roads was restored over 78 bridges. Most of them were restored in Kyiv (20 out of 24 buildings) and Chernihiv (20 out of 27 buildings) regions. During 2023, it was possible to cross over two bridges that were renovated in the Nikolaev and Kharkiv regions.
In the new budgets, the amount of damage caused to the forests of Ukraine was added for the first time, which, according to the results of the first year of the war, amounts to 4.5 billion dollars.

Due to the war started by Russia, educational institutions continue to be damaged and destroyed. According to the latest data, 3,170 educational institutions were destroyed or damaged, of which 1,500 were secondary educational institutions, 909 preschool educational institutions, and 528 higher education institutions. By the end of February 2023, losses in the field of education have increased by 300 million dollars, compared to the December budgets, and amount to 8.9 billion dollars.
Damages in the energy sector of Ukraine have also increased and amount to 8.1 billion dollars. There was an increase in the estimate of losses in relation to previously caused damage to nuclear energy facilities, as well as in connection with the update of damage calculations to natural gas transport facilities.
The amount of direct losses caused to the agro-industrial complex and land resources increased by another 2.1 billion dollars. Currently, the estimate of losses in this area is 8.7 billion dollars.
By the end of February 2023, the number of damaged and destroyed vehicles also increased significantly. If we compare to the budget for the end of 2022, the number of destroyed and damaged vehicles increased by 28,500. In total, 223,400 cars worth $3.1 billion were destroyed or damaged as a result of the war.
The direct costs of trade and health care have increased. According to the calculations of the experts working on this project, by the end of the winter of 2023, the amount of losses in trade increased to 2.6 billion dollars, and the medical industry suffered the destruction of infrastructure for another 100 million dollars, so that the total direct losses of this sector are estimated to 1.8 billion dollars.

At the same time, in the latest budgets, experts of the project "Russia will pay" of the Kyiv School of Economics reduced the estimate of losses for industry and enterprises from 13 billion dollars in December 2022 to 11.3 billion dollars at the end of February 2023. The decrease was due to a reassessment of the company's status after receiving updated information on the results of property damage after shelling. Individual companies have been reclassified and will later be included in the calculation of losses of other sectors of the economy.
The assessment was carried out within the framework of the National Council for the Recovery of Ukraine from the Consequences of War together with the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Reintegration and in cooperation with other relevant ministries and the National Bank of Ukraine.

By the way, the day before the publication of these data, World Bank analysts noted that the post-war reconstruction and reconstruction of Ukraine will cost no less than 411 billion dollars..
