Western Balkans II Project

The European Judicial Training Network (EJTN), as a long-standing partner of the European Union, supports sustainable judicial reform in the Western Balkans, most recently through the implementation of the “Western Balkan II“ Project 2022-2025 (Pilot Action on Judicial Training IPA/2021/425-032).

The Action is implemented within the framework of the IPA II Multi-country Action Programme 2020, with financial support from the European Commission – Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG Near).

EJTN works closely with the judicial training schools in the region – who are also EJTN Observers – to strengthen their existing capacity to deliver strong, adequate, and efficient training to judges and prosecutors.

With assistance from the Project, representatives from the Western Balkan judiciaries participate in various study visits across Europe to exchange best practices with their colleagues. Thus far, the Project has facilitated attendance at seminars on judicial training methods, exchanges for judicial trainers, exchanges for court presidents and chief prosecutors, as well as the EJTN General Assembly. More information about targeted EJTN events can be found here – EJTN SeminarsJudicial Leaders Exchanges, and Trainers Exchanges.

The Project also provides targeted support for the development of a training programme on EU law at the Serbian Judicial Academy and the Montenegrin Centre for Training in Judiciary and State Prosecution. To that end, EJTN relies on and calls upon experts from its Members (EU Member States training schools), who have specialized knowledge of judicial training methodologies and training on EU law. We also work collaboratively with EJTN partners in the region (EU Delegations, Council of Europe, OSCE, UN, Regional Cooperation Council) to contribute to cohesive support and delivery of training.

We would like to thank all the judicial training schools – our Members and our Observers, as well as our partners for their valuable cooperation with the Project!
