Warm premises for more than 500 children in Bileća

The installation of a new pellet heating system in the "Petar II Petrović Njegoš" Elementary School and the "Budućnost Kindergarten" provided safe and warm rooms for 500 children in Bileća.

This was made possible through the project "Scaling-Up Investment in Low-Carbon Public Buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina " (Low Carbon), financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH)  in cooperation with the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of Republika Srpska and other partners in the country.

The project significantly improved the energy efficiency of these buildings, and pellet heating is more energy-efficient and cost-effective.

“The setting of the kindergarten is much nicer and more modern. This project is a profitable investment for the benefit of children, which also contributes to saving energy and money. The greatest benefit is the heating, which significantly affects the health and pleasant stay in the kindergarten for both children and our 18-kindergarten staff”, said Mara Vojnović, director of the Budućnost Kindergarten

More than 40 female employees of "Petar II Petrović Njegoš" Primary School and 475 male and female students at this school also received a safer and more pleasant working environment. In this school, a complete reconstruction of the boiler room was carried out, and new pipelines and electrical networks, auxiliary pumps, and other devices necessary for the operation of the boilers were installed. New radiators were also installed in the school, while thermo-valves were installed on all radiators.

“Apart from reducing CO2 emissions in the air, warmer rooms reduce the possibility of frequent colds in children and employees. Looking from the aspect of comfort, it is much more pleasant to go to the toilet, especially for girls and women. It is also much easier for support staff to work and clean in warmer rooms,” said the principal Miodrag Parežanin.

Teacher Marijana Dunđerović: “Classrooms are much warmer and more pleasant to work in, with a positive impact on students' and teachers’ focus. I am happy that we can organise plays and events in the school hall in a warm and pleasant atmosphere. It makes me happy that I don’t have to work in a winter jacket and coat, which was once unthinkable.”

Phase One of the energy renovation, that is, the reconstruction of the heating in the Budućnost Kindergarten and the Petar II Petrović Njegoš Primary School will show its true significance after thermal insulation of the building, replacing the joinery, facade, and roof.

The goal of the project Scaling-Up Investment in Low-Carbon Public Buildings in BiH is to eliminate financial barriers to scale-up investment in public buildings, which contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions, creates savings, creates new "green" jobs, and provides support for the country's economic development.
