The "Gornja Jablanica" primary school in Medveđa is being renovated with the support of the European Union

More than 300 students at the Gornja Jablanica Primary School in Medveđa will soon have better conditions for education after the renovation of the school, which was built more than four decades ago, with the support of the European Union (EU). The EU has provided more than 150,000 euros for the ongoing works through the EU PRO Plus program, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration.
The renovation of the school involves replacing the old woodwork on the school building, which will increase energy efficiency by 30 percent, and the municipality of Medveđa is participating in the implementation of the project with over 27,000 euros.
Since the woodwork on the building where the school is now located has not been replaced for more than 40 years, the classrooms could not be properly heated in winter, and were extremely hot in summer. With the support of the EU and the municipality, adequate conditions for learning and the work of teachers will be provided in the school, and budget savings will also be achieved. The elementary school in Medveđa was founded in 1888, and today it also hosts classes for classes at the "Stanislav Binički" Music School from Leskovac, and students from the special class at the "11. oktobar" School for Primary and Secondary Education from Leskovac.
The works, carried out by the company Manasijević doo Bujanovac from Bujanovac, selected in a public procurement procedure conducted by the municipality of Medveđa, will last 57 days.
The project in Medveđa is one of 39 local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus program with more than six million euros to improve the quality of life of people through the renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, as well as the improvement of utility services and public administration buildings.
