Switzerland Unveils 120 Million BAM Cooperation Program for BiH

The official presentation of the Swiss Cooperation Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina 2025-2028. worth 120 million BAM was held today at the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the cooperation between the governments and peoples of Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina was officially presented by Denis Zvizdić, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, and the Swiss Ambassador to BiH Gabriele Derighetti, Fena news agency writes.

As Ambassador Derigeti said, Switzerland remains committed to continuing its long-term partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The new cooperation program has been carefully prepared in discussion with partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in the coming four years offers support to BiH in building a peaceful and cohesive democratic society on the path to European integration. This is of particular importance given the geographical proximity and the significant BiH diaspora in Switzerland, as well as the broader security situation in Europe,” said Detighetti.

In the period from 2025 to 2028, an annual allocation of up to 30 million BAM is planned for the Swiss Development Cooperation Program in BiH (which is about 120 million BAM in the next four years).

“The financing will also affect investments by multilateral banks and the private sector. The cooperation program is focused on political, economic and social reforms in order to improve the work of institutions and the quality of public services, support the development of the green economy, better manage migration and improve the health sector,” H.E. emphasized.

He also added that Switzerland has a lot of economic, social and social ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina, but mainly through the BiH diaspora.

“We all have an interest in the peace and prosperity of this country and region, and this is our contribution to your faster integration into the European Union,” he emphasized.

As Zvizdić said, this program represents a key step in further support for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland, which has been and remains a reliable partner in the process of political, economic and social development of BiH for years.

“The cooperation program that we are launching today is one of the forms of direct assistance from Swiss citizens to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is important to emphasize that this is a continuation of assistance, not a beginning,” said Zvizdić.

Switzerland has been one of the three largest bilateral donors to BiH since 1996.

“Switzerland has invested more than one billion and two hundred million convertible marks since then. Switzerland remains committed to continuing its long-term partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Zvizdić.

He added that this is of particular importance given the geographical proximity and significant BiH diaspora in Switzerland, as well as the broader security situation in Europe.

The financing will also influence investments by multilateral banks and the private sector.
