Reconstructed Part of the General Hospital in Požarevac Officially Opened

Minister of European Integration at the Government of Serbia Nemanja Starović attended the official opening of the reconstructed part of the General Hospital in Požarevac, implemented within the framework of the cross-border cooperation project between Serbia and Romania called “RORS-193 – joint initiative against cancer in cross-border region: improved diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumours.”
“What we are opening today is not only a renovated space but also a new chapter in the fight against cancer – one of the most serious diseases of our time. And most importantly, we are opening it together – as partners, neighbours, and friends, under the umbrella of European cooperation,” Minister Starović said.
The project’s total value exceeds EUR 11.5 million, of which more than EUR 4.5 million were invested in Požarevac from the European Union IPA funds, with additional investments by the Republic of Serbia amounting to EUR 1.6 million. Over 7,000 square metres have been reconstructed, the most modern medical equipment has been procured, new operating theatres have been opened, and the capacities and conditions for patient treatment have been significantly improved.
“This is proof that European support has very concrete and tangible results. Joint projects of Serbia and Romania – more than 250 initiatives realised so far – show that borders do not have to be walls, but bridges that connect and save lives,” added Starović.
The RORS-193 project is being implemented in cooperation with health institutions from Timișoara and Reșița, the Ministry of Health of Serbia, and with the support of the European Union within the IPA III programming perspective.
