More than €270,000 awarded to civil society initiatives in Serbia

As part of two regional projects implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with financial support from the European Union (EU) and the Government of the United Kingdom (UK), a total of €271,400 has been awarded to eight civil society organizations (CSOs) from Serbia. The selected initiatives address topics such as dealing with the past, promoting peace, combating disinformation, and strengthening interethnic trust, with a special focus on youth engagement and educational approaches.

Among the supported projects submitted by CSOs through the public call for promoting reconciliation and dialogue are:

  • “My Country, My Voice: Art, Culture, and Youth Work in Promoting Peace in the Western Balkans” by Center E8

  • “Activist Legacy – Digital Voices of Youth for Justice and Remembrance in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina” by Jelena Šantić Foundation

  • “Museum of the Nineties – Regional Center for Peace, Education, and Future Cooperation” by Cultural Front

  • “Lessons for the Future – Learning about the Wars of the Nineties in the Former Yugoslavia” by Euroclio

  • “Why Do You Say Love When You Mean War? 2.0” by Association Krokodil

  • “Right to Peace and a Just Society: The Duty to Know and Remember” by Youth Center CK13

  • “Fighting Disinformation Through Facts” by the Humanitarian Law Center

  • and the project “Overcoming Points of Dispute: Transgenerational Coping with the Legacy of Armed Conflicts of the 1990s in the Former Yugoslavia” by the Belgrade Open School, supported by funds from the Government of the United Kingdom.

More information about the supported initiatives can be found here.

Due to high interest from civil society organizations, the process was extremely competitive — a total of 272 project proposals were received from across the region, 44 of which were submitted from Serbia. The selected projects represent the most successful initiatives that demonstrated high quality, relevance, and potential to contribute to reconciliation and confidence building in the region.

The grants are awarded within the regional projects “EU Support to Confidence Building in the Western Balkans” funded by EU, and “Strengthening Transitional Justice Processes in the Western Balkans”, funded by the Government of the United Kingdom, and were evenly distributed among countries in the region, in line with the objectives of the projects.
