EU, World Bank, and Kosovo Government invest in energy efficiency; over 1200 primary school students in Podujevë/Podujevo enjoy better learning conditions

As a result of work done to improve energy efficiency in 70 public buildings in all Kosovo municipalities through a project jointly funded by the European Union, World Bank, and Kosovo Government and implemented through the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF), more than 1,200 students of the “Shaban Shala” primary school and their teachers now enjoy better learning and working conditions.

The investment in the school’s new thermal insulation, energy-efficient doors, windows, and lighting, and a new and efficient heating system will reduce its energy consumption by more than 70% and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Visiting the school with Kosovo Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, Acting Country Director of the World Bank, Elene Imnazde, and the Head of Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, Ahmet Ismaili, Head of the EU in Kosovo’s  Political, Economic, and European Integration Section, AnnaCarin Platon, said: “Energy efficiency is the cornerstone of the European Union’s support to the energy sector in Kosovo, and the EU remains committed to supporting Kosovo on its path towards the green transition and de-carbonization.”

The European Union has so far committed EUR 13 million to improve energy efficiency in public institutions in Kosovo, while the EU's upcoming Energy Support Package for Kosovo worth EUR 75 million will assist disadvantaged families to cover their energy costs, and public and private sector to further improve energy efficiency and switch to renewable sources of energy.
