EIB funds to replace asbestos-cement water supply network in Struga

As part of the project "Improvement of water infrastructure in municipalities in North Macedonia", implemented by the European Investment Bank and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, which will be allocated through the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning as grants to municipalities, a contract has been concluded to replace the city's water supply network in Struga.
The contract was concluded between the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the selected contractor "Markovski K73 DOOEL" from Struga. The replacement of the asbestos-cement water supply network in the city, according to the agreement, will be carried out in the next 18 months, which will ensure a better quality water supply for the residents of the city of Struga, and the replacement of asbestos-cement water pipes with new high-quality pipes will greatly contribute to improving water quality, environmental protection and reducing water losses. The investment amount is 76 million denars.
With these additional 50 million euros to the 100 million euros previously allocated by the Government, a step forward is being made in strengthening and improving the living conditions of all citizens of North Macedonia, without exception, because the funds are available to all municipalities in the country without exception.
The level of implementation of these funds is around 20 percent of the total amount and, in accordance with the approved project documentation and procurement documentation for the implementation of the projects submitted by the municipalities and approved by the Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Rural Development, an acceleration of the implementation dynamics is expected in the coming period.
