Customs Administration: Smart borders are being introduced with a two million euro grant from the EU – border terminals will be fully automated

The Customs Administration is starting the implementation of one of the most significant projects for the modernization of the border infrastructure, which introduces smart systems for automation of border terminals, for which a grant of two million euros has been provided by the European Union. Following a previously published public announcement, a contract has been signed with the contractor for the procurement of equipment, marking significant progress in the project, the implementation of which should be completed by the middle of next year.

Terminal automation will enable significantly faster flow of goods and reduce waiting times and operating costs for economic operators. By replacing existing ramps and scales with new digital systems supported by advanced analytical video cameras  –  imports, exports and transit will be recorded automatically, within just a few seconds of the freight vehicle entering the customs terminal.

The automatic scales and ramps will be directly connected to the video surveillance and license plate recognition system, for which a procedure for the procurement of software - integrator is underway, which will enable more efficient control and accelerated flow of legal trade in accordance with EU standards. At the same time, the application of such systems will also enable the reduction of the impact of the human factor, as one of the tools for the efficient fight against crime and corruption.
