The largest island reservoir in Croatia opened in Novalja
The largest island reservoir in the Republic of Croatia - Komorovac II - was officially opened in Novalja. as part of the project "Improving the water utility infrastructure of the Novalja agglomeration".
The opening ceremony was attended by the General Director of Hrvatske vode Zoran Đuroković, Prefect of Lika-Senj County Ernest Petry, Mayor of the City of Novalja Ivan Dabo, Director of Communal Affairs of Novalja Neven Korda and numerous guests and representatives of local self-government units and utility companies from the island of Pag.
The investment is worth more than 4 million euros, and at the same time an additional 3 million euros were invested in the water supply system of Novalja and the surrounding settlements. The funds were provided by Hrvatske vode from EU funds with co-financing from the Government of the Republic of Croatia and local self-government units. In this way, sufficient water capacity will be ensured throughout the year for the entire area of the city of Novalja and other places on the island of Pag.
The construction of the new water reservoir "VS Komorovac II" with a volume of 5 thousand cubic meters would enable the island of Pag to be supplied with water despite the interruption of supply from the Croatian coastal water supply system - southern branch, during regular maintenance on the Senj hydroelectric power plant system and on days with maximum consumption during the peak tourist season.
In the current state, on days with maximum consumption of drinking water, the "Komorovac" water reservoir is almost completely emptied, so that the water supply of the population and tourists in the area in question during the summer months is called into question.
In addition to the aforementioned investment measures in the water supply system, the project also includes investment measures in the public drainage system and purification.
The project "Improving the water and communal infrastructure of the Novalja agglomeration" is a public investment project that will contribute to the preservation and protection of the environment and human health, as well as the improvement of the public water supply system with the aim of ensuring the quality and safety of drinking water supply services. The total value of the Project is EUR 41,202,715.79, of which EU grants are EUR 22,893,945.96.
