The EU4CAET project workshops brought together representatives of 28 local communities developing renewable energy projects with the support of the EU and Germany
Sarajevo (Fena) – As part of the EU4CAET project, which the European Union and Germany are implementing to accelerate the local energy transition in BiH, workshops were held in Sarajevo and Banja Luka where representatives of municipalities developed project ideas in the field of renewable and sustainable energy. Out of 89 initiatives submitted by 51 local communities, 43 projects were selected for further technical support and preparation for EU and German grants.
Project manager Mareike Hahr emphasized that the proposed projects bring concrete benefits to citizens, from lower bills and cleaner air to more energy-efficient schools and kindergartens, and that it is encouraging that the initiatives come from local communities. The EU4CAET team, through international and local experts, helps municipalities develop projects and assess their feasibility, strengthening their capacities to participate in the European energy transition.
The workshops, along with the exchange of experiences and the identification of administrative challenges, contributed to the creation of a network of local leaders willing to actively participate in the transition to renewable energy sources. The EU4CAET project is financed by the German BMZ, co-financed by the European Union, and implemented by GIZ. The EU and the German Government thus support local communities in preparing projects that can bring long-term benefits in line with European energy goals. (13.11.)
