Improved health services in the municipality of Raška with the support of the European Union
The Health Center in the municipality of Raška was renovated with the support of the European Union of over 95,000 euros, allocated through the EU PRO Plus program, which is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integration, while the municipality of Raška participated in the project with almost 17,000 euros. The renovated premises of the Health Center Raška were visited today by the Head of Operations II of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Rihard Maša, representatives of the Ministry for European Integration and the EU PRO Plus program, together with the Mayor of the Municipality of Raška, Darko Milićević.
The interior works included partial replacement of floors, renovation of two toilets, replacement of interior joinery and painting of the rooms. The project also purchased air conditioners, as well as televisions for the waiting room in the pediatric department, which significantly improved the conditions for patients and the work of medical staff.
"For more than 15 years, we have been cooperating with the municipality of Raška through local social and economic development programs through which the European Union has supported more than 60 projects. By supporting these projects, worth around 2.2 million euros, of which EU grants amount to 1.7 million euros, we confirm the European Union's commitment to improving the quality of life of citizens through infrastructure development, better healthcare and strengthening the local community," said Rihard Maša, Head of Operations II of the European Union Delegation to Serbia.
Maša emphasized that two projects in the health sector were implemented through the EU PRO Plus program in the municipality of Raška.
“The reconstruction of the health station in Baljevac and the renovation of the Raška Health Center contributed to improving the working conditions of doctors and medical staff, as well as the quality of health services provided to citizens,” said Maša, adding that the municipality recognized the importance of investing in the health sector.
“Improving conditions in the Health Center is an important step towards better quality and more accessible health care for our fellow citizens. We are grateful to the European Union for its continued support for projects that contribute to the development of our municipality,” said Darko Milićević, Mayor of the Municipality of Raška.
The municipality will continue investing in the Health Center through energy rehabilitation of the facility, with the support of the Republic of Serbia through the Directorate for Financing and Promoting Energy Efficiency of the Ministry of Mining and Energy. Also, last year, the X-ray department was reconstructed, a new digital X-ray machine was purchased, and an elevator was installed.
During the visit, it was emphasized that cooperation with the municipality of Raška continues through the EU INTEGRA program - EU support for integral territorial development, within which the municipality participates in the development of a territorial strategy for the urban area that includes the cities of Kraljevo and Čačak, as well as the municipalities of Raška, Vrnjačka Banja and Ivanjica.
The European Union is supporting the activities of the EU PRO Plus programme, which contributes to a more balanced socio-economic development of Serbia, with 40 million euros. The programme, implemented by the Ministry for European Integration, aims to contribute to improved management of territorial development, economic growth and improvement of social infrastructure and cohesion in 99 local self-government units, in two regions: the Region of Šumadija and Western Serbia and the Region of Southern and Eastern Serbia. Field activities are implemented by UNOPS.
