European Union Planning “Road Map” for Reduction of Price of Roaming Between EU and Western Balkans

The European Union is planning to launch a so-called “road map” at the upcoming summit of the leaders of the EU and the Western Balkans, whereby the conditions and the goals of reducing the price of roaming between the EU and the Western Balkans would be determined, as confirmed for the media from Brussels.

On that occasion, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, talked yesterday with representatives of telecom operators from the region.

– I have had good talks with telecom operators from the region about how to make a progress in reducing the roaming prices both within the Western Balkans and of the region with the EU. We are prepared to support the investments in order to make this come true – Varhelyi said.

At the EU-Western Balkans summit, within the debate on the Economic Investment Plan for the region, one of the topics will be the creation of the conditions for a gradual decrease in the price of roaming between the countries of the Western Balkans and the EU 27.

In the EU, they praise the successful implementation of the regional roaming agreement, which has enabled the launching of the free roaming between the countries of the Western Balkans from July 1, 2021.

It is added that the reduction in the price of roaming between the EU and the Western Balkans will be an extension of this regional initiative.
