Thanks to this investment of 75 million euros, the EU has created a contemporary standard to offer Albanian children and students safety and dignified infrastructure to fulfill the deserved educational needs.
"EU for Schools”, the program funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in Albania, has radically transformed the educational structures damaged by the November 26, 2019 earthquake.
Thanks to this investment of 75 million euros, the EU has created a contemporary standard to offer Albanian children and students safety and dignified infrastructure to meet their deserved educational needs.
So far, the EU delegation announced that 59 schools have been completed in 11 municipalities in Albania.
The program was born after the international donors’ conference for Albania, on February 17, 2020, organized by the European Union in Brussels. “Together for Albania” aimed to support Albania in its reconstruction efforts after the devastating earthquake.
In this context, the “EU4Schools” / “EU for Schools” Program came to life with a value of 75 million euros funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the Albanian government. 25,000 students, teachers, and children are the beneficiaries of this project.
“EU4Schools” worked for the reconstruction or repair of 60 educational facilities, including nurseries, kindergartens, elementary schools, high schools, and dormitories in the 11 municipalities most affected by the earthquake – Krujë, Durrës, Kurbin, Kamzë, Kavajë, Tirana, Mirditë, Lezhë, Rrogozhinë, Shijak, and Vorë.
The project also helps Albania achieve Sustainable Development Goal number 4, which is about “ensuring inclusive and equitable education, as well as promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
