ZIGLJEN FERRY PIER FINALLY RENOVATED

The Zigljen ferry pier has finally been renovated, marking an important change for Novalja and Pag.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Zigljen ferry pier has had a new lease of life breathed into it, after the money was secured through the EU Cohesion Fund and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, as reported by HRT.

A BIG MOMENT FOR NOVALJA AND PAG

“This is a big thing for Novalja, the island of Pag, and in my opinion also for all of Croatia, because this is one of the busiest ferry ports in the country, where over a million passengers and 400,000 vehicles pass annually. With this project, the Zigljen ferry pier was completely renovated so that three banks and three new ramps were fully renovated, and the value of the investment stands at 73 million kuna. We hope that this investment will increase tourism capacities, encourage the demographic renewal of the population and that it will benefit our wider community and the county,” said Tomislav Kustic, the director of the Novalja Port Authority.

WAVES AND WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL NO LONGER RULE

“Ferries can now spend the night here even in high winds and bura, the mooring is better now and I hope that soon there will be a pier on the opposite side that will be able to accommodate two to three ferries, and then we will have an even bigger dimension and traffic connection,” Kustic explained.

This port can now accommodate up to three ferries of up to 120 metres in length, and there should be no more summer crowds. “There should be no traffic jams, traffic will flow without any problems, and we’re fully ready with this solution,” concluded Kustic.

HOPES ARE HIGH FOR RECORD NUMBERS

The renovation of the Zigljen ferry pier, which has been needed for some time now, has allowed for hopes for record numbers of tourist arrivals and passing through the port.
