The Russians damaged or destroyed more than 800 monuments of cultural heritage in Ukraine

The Russians stole monuments from Ukraine that were erected in honor of imperial and Soviet military figures.
By the end of September 2023, 841 objects of cultural heritage were damaged by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, while the list does not include objects of cultural infrastructure. This is reported by "Glavkom" referring to the data submitted by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy Jurij Leščuk in response to the request.
The number of damaged monuments of national importance is 119, 656 of local importance, and 65 newly discovered monuments of cultural heritage.
Of the total number of buildings damaged by Russian troops, 260 are architectural monuments, 245 are architectural-urbanistic, 200 are historical, 33 are architectural, historical, 20 are archaeological, 19 are art monuments, 17 are urban and monumental art monuments.
Most monuments were destroyed in the areas of Kharkiv (207 buildings), Odessa (112), Donetsk (111), Kherson (80) and Kyiv (69).
Also, 23 monuments of cultural heritage of Ukraine are considered completely destroyed.
Among them are local landmarks such as windmills (Kharkov region), Donetsk regional drama theater, monument to Metropolitan Ignatius (Mariupol), St. George's church (Kiev region), Church of the Ascension (Kiev region).
The fate of another 170 monuments remains unknown, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine announced.
The full Russian invasion of Ukraine damaged a total of 841 cultural heritage sites.
In addition, the occupiers dismantled and removed from Ukraine monuments in honor of Admiral Fyodor Ushakov, Commander Oleksandr Suvorov, Military Commander Vasyl Margelov, Military Officer Khryhori Potemkin (all these sculptures were in Kherson, which was under occupation in 2022).
The Russian invasion forces also dismantled the monument to the victims of the Holodomor and political repressions and the monument to the artist Arhip Kuindži in Mariupol.
As is known, the invasion has been going on in Ukraine for longer than 614 days, initiated by Putin's Russia.
As reported by "Glavcom", at the beginning of August, the international organization UNESCO confirmed the damage to 274 cultural objects in Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion of Russia in February 2022.
Let us remind you that on the night of July 23, Russian troops carried out a massive attack on the territory of Odessa and the region, as a result of which one person was killed and 22 were injured, including four children. Also, as a result of this Russian missile attack, the Transfiguration Cathedral in Odessa was destroyed.
By the way, one of the walls of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Odessa is in an unstable position, so there is a danger that it could collapse.
The head of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, said that her country is ready to participate in the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord and other Treasures of damaged cultural heritage of Ukraine.
