The EU has so far donated over two million euros for green projects in Tivat

The head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Ambassador Oana Kristina Popa, visited the municipality of Tivat, where she met with representatives of local self-government and users of EU projects in that city, and emphasized that the EU has donated over two million euros for green projects in Tivat.

As the focus of the visit was the environmental sustainability of Tivat and Montenegro, Popa assessed that by further investing in green solutions, with the support of the EU and civil society, Tivat will be able to attract more tourists and become an example of a green and sustainable municipality, not only in Montenegro, but in the region and beyond.

"The EU has donated over 2 million euros for projects in Tivat, which are mainly focused on environmental protection, sustainable development and tourism. "I learned more from the local authorities about how these projects bring benefits to the local population," said Popa.

Together with the president of the municipality of Tivat, Zeljko Komnenovic, Popa visited the Tivat saltworks, where, thanks to European funds, a new Visitor Center will be built.

"European Union investments in Solila have already helped to preserve and develop their tourist offer, as well as to protect migratory birds," the EU said in Montenegro.

Popa also visited the Župa sports hall, where modern EU-funded solar collectors provide domestic hot water.

"The EU has also financed other green investments in the city, such as the installation of a new public lighting system, with about 600 LED lights, which save energy and reduce costs. We have financed numerous green solutions to make the city cleaner and more accessible for citizens and tourists, promoting the Green Agenda in Tivat and Montenegro, "said the European Union Ambassador to Montenegro.

In the same ecological spirit, the ambassador will tomorrow (Saturday) open the second evening of the green fashion festival IFF "International Fashion Festival Porto Montenegro 2021 - Green Edition".

"For the first time, the EU supports this festival, in order to send the message that, especially after the pandemic, we must reconsider the principles of the fashion and textile industry, which are major polluters. Popa invited the citizens of Tivat and their guests to join her tomorrow evening at 8 pm on the waterfront and watch the premiere of the fashion show of Montenegrin designer Aleksandra Djakovic, which promotes sustainable fashion and uses biodegradable materials," the EU said in Montenegro.
