The City of Novi Sad and partner local self-governments have started the preparation of a territorial strategy with the support of the European Union

A meeting of representatives of the Ministry for European Integration, the EU INTEGRA programme, the City of Novi Sad, the Regional Development Agency Bačka, and the municipalities of Apatin, Bač, Bačka Palanka, Bački Petrovac and Odžaci was held in Novi Sad on the occasion of the start of activities on the preparation of the territorial strategy of the urban area of the City of Novi Sad and these five municipalities.

The preparation of the strategy is being implemented through the EU INTEGRA, the EU support to Support to Integrated Territorial Development, in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integration and UNOPS. UNOPS will provide local self-governments with technical support in the preparation of the strategic document that will define the directions of future development of this functional territory.

On behalf of the City of Novi Sad, the meeting was attended by the member of the City Council in charge of urbanism, housing affairs, property and property-legal affairs and investments, Mirjana Marković. In addition to representatives of the involved local self-governments, representatives of the Regional Development Agency Bačka, which participates in this process as a partner organization, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, it was emphasised that the process of preparing the territorial strategy will be participatory and that, in addition to the City of Novi Sad and partner municipalities, it will include experts in the fields of urbanism, economy, environmental protection, transport, culture and tourism, as well as representatives of institutions, the business sector, civil society and citizens.

EU INTEGRA Programme provides support to integrated territorial development in 144 local self-governments in Serbia, and is implemented by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and UNOPS in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integration. The Programme builds on the results of the EU PRO Plus programme, through which the model of integrated sustainable territorial development has already been introduced in Serbia through the preparation of territorial strategies and the implementation of integrated projects.
