NGOs were awarded grants to promote the reform of the Disability Assessment System
NGOs, within the project Reform of the National Disability Assessment System - Recognize My Opportunities, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Program, through five different projects in the coming months will work to promote reform and rights and opportunities persons with disabilities (PWDs), the UNDP said.
It is stated that, through a series of project activities, the public will be informed about the issues that PWDs and their families face on a daily basis, as well as about the reform of this system that promotes inclusion and creates a fairer system.
“In the first call for grants worth 50,000 euros, in a competitive process, funds for the implementation of five projects were received by: Boka Youth Initiative with Disabilities, Center for Civic Education and Association of Parents of Children with Disabilities from Podgorica, Association of the Blind of Montenegro, NGO Equivalent and the Association for Assistance to Persons with Psychophysical Development Nikšić ", said the UNDP.
It is added that these NGOs through numerous activities, using various communication techniques and tools, will influence awareness raising and education of the general public, but also various target groups - PWDs and their families, NGOs representing PWDs, representatives of relevant state and local institutions and representatives media.
The project "Reform of the National Disability Assessment System" is funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP, in cooperation with civil society organizations representing PWDs, relevant ministries and state institutions.
The project will establish a single body for disability assessment and develop a new methodology based on the human rights model that will replace the outdated predominantly medical model of disability assessment in Montenegro.
In this way, PWDs will exercise their rights in a fairer and simpler way.
