NEW SPLIT BYPASS WORTH 7 MILLION EUROS ON THE HORIZON

September the 8th, 2023 – Driving in the City of Split during the very height of the summer tourist season can be a bit of an adrenaline sport of its own. A new Split bypass in an investment totalling seven million euros is now on the cards.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, work on the construction of about three kilometres of the future Split bypass, which will connect the junction in Mravince with the junction on the TTTS, began on Thursday. This investment, as Minister Oleg Butković revealed, amounts to more than seven million euros.

“This is an extremely important project for Split-Dalmatia County because the Split bypass is also going to be part of the Trogir-Omiš road,” explained the minister. Butković also opened the works on the construction of a ramp in the area worth around two million euros.

According to him, part of the first road in the area of Omiš will be completed by the end of this year. As for the entire Trogir-Omiš road, it should be completed in the next five or six years with financing from EU funds, Butković said.

Answering journalists’ questions about not only the new Split bypass but other construction projects in the wider area, the Maritime Affairs and Transport Minister also announced the signing of the contract related to the Kozjak tunnel scheduled for September the 28th, 2023. He pointed out that the work on breaking through it should finally begin at the end of this year should all go as currently planned and predicted.

He also noted that two days ago, the government signed a contract on the construction of a passenger terminal in Split’s City Port, which will take a significant amount of weight off current capacities during the summer months when tourists flock to the port to head to nearby islands.

As far as expressways are concerned, Butković stressed, the priority is the Dubrovnik-Airport expressway. He explained that nothing will be done there by force, nor will any construction ever begin against the residents of that area’s wishes. He added that we need to wait for the verdict regarding that expressway before much else can be said about it.
