Montenegro gets resuscitation devices in public areas for the first time: The device gives voice instructions to save lives
For the first time in the history of Montenegrin health care, twenty defibrillators - devices for resuscitation in the event of a heart attack - have been installed in public areas in ten cities. This was announced by the Minister of Health, Dr. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, at the official presentation of the device at the headquarters of the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid in Podgorica.
Defibrillators were given to Podgorica, Nikšić, Danilovgrad, Cetinje, Budva, Kotor, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Bar and Ulcinj. In Podgorica, for example, defibrillators are located in health centers Block V, Zlatica, Nova Varoš, Pobrežje, Golubovci and in the health station Ubli.
The devices were procured within the IPA project of the European Union RACE (Race for life). In your city, you will recognize them by the abbreviation AED.
"An automatic external defibrillator is a portable device that delivers electricity to people who have heart failure due to heart rhythm disorders. The curiosity is that this device gives voice instructions according to the latest guidelines of basic life support procedures. The device analyzes the rhythm and recommends or does not recommend defibrillation, and guides the user through the entire process of resuscitation ", explained Minister Borovinić Bojović.
These devices, she said, are invaluable to the health care system, as the most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest is a deadly heart rhythm (ventricular fibrillation), so survival depends on the speed of treatment called defibrillation which is done with these devices.
"Since cardiac arrest is one of the most common causes of death in our country, and one of the causes is inadequate patient preparation until the arrival of the ambulance, and given the short period of time to fatal consequences, we expect that the installation of these devices in public areas contribute to saving a large number of lives of our citizens, and the quality of health services, emergency care and the entire health system in this way is raised to a higher level, "said Dr. Borovinić Bojović.
The Institute for Emergency Medical Aid previously organized educational workshops for the proper use of defibrillators for 263 people from the Podgorica Health Center, for those engaged in protection and rescue services, for members of the Ministry of the Interior and for Podgorica Airport employees, mountaineers / scouts and part of the student volunteers.
Each device also contains a tracking signal, ie a GSM system. Surveillance is carried out from the headquarters of the Ambulance in Podgorica.
The director of ZHMP, Dr. Vuk Niković, said that the realization of this project shows the outlines of a real ambulance for the first time. He thanked the donors who wished to remain anonymous and who
helped to equip, as he said, the space that will be the forerunner of the large dispatch center for emergency medical care.
He also thanked Telekom for the donation, in the amount of five thousand euros, thanks to which a GPS vehicle tracking system was installed in the complete vehicle fleet (50) in order to reach the ambulance to the scene of the accident as efficiently and quickly as possible. Dr. Niković emphasized that Telecom recognized the importance of the existence of a dispatch center in the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid.
"I hope that this will benefit some future generations and that the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid will be recognized in the right sense and that more and more people will stay to work in emergency medical care," said Dr. Niković.
Director of the Health Center Podgorica, Dr. Danilo Jokic said that the synergy of the health system, starting with the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Emergency Medicine, the Clinical Center, and all health centers is an example of good organization and can serve generations to come as a guide. work for the benefit of all citizens of Montenegro.
