Improved conditions for hemodialysis and a renovated facility for patients in the nephrology department

After almost four decades of existence, major construction works have been carried out at JZU Nephrology Struga, and investments have also been made in improving the conditions for the treatment of patients, thanks to the project "Sustainable and inclusive balanced regional development - phase 2" through the program "Investment project with a digital component of the grant scheme". implemented by the Ministry of Local Self-Government with the support of the Swiss Government.
Deputy Minister of Local Self-Government Ercan Selimi, together with the director of the institution, Yetmir Ziba, and the director of the Center for the Development of the Southwest Planning Region, Valjon Kaba, visited the institution, which officially marked the realization of the project worth 26 million denars.
As part of the project, photovoltaic panels were installed on the main building of the facility, there is a solar water heating system, a new heating/cooling system, a diesel generator, and the carpentry and lighting inside the facility were replaced. At the same time, a wireless hospital notification system was installed in the intensive care unit, a central oxygen distribution system was established, and the institution's website was upgraded with the possibility of electronic appointment of examinations and dialysis. Investments were also made in the "Holiday Dialysis" facility, which is now completely renovated, has a new heating/cooling and ventilation system, new inventory (medical chairs, nursing room equipment and other necessary specialized furniture).
"The institution now has all the conditions for timely and complete treatment of people with kidney diseases. A central oxygen supply system for three hemodialysis and intensive care rooms, a reverse osmosis system was purchased, the 'holiday dialysis' department was completely renovated and can now be used throughout the year, and the daily treatment capacity was increased to 60 people. We have already started to reduce electricity costs, thanks to the reconstructed roof and facade and installed solar panels on the roof of the building. This capital investment is of exceptional importance and represents a great step forward for the improvement of the medical services we offer", said the director of the JZU Nephrology Ziba, who informed that the project achieved energy efficiency of the facility, and
as a result of the modernization of the institution's website, there is now the possibility of electronic scheduling examination and dialysis.
"It is an honor for me to attend today's officialization of the project to improve health services in this institution, which is extremely important considering that it treats over 14,000 patients from the country and beyond every year. Many thanks for the support of the Government of Switzerland, with the help of which we solved all the anomalies of the facility, both from the infrastructural aspect and from the medical point of view. Now the institution provides services and treatment according to all standards in the interest of its patients, our citizens, but also those from the region, and conditions have been created for the development of health tourism, which is important not only for Struga, but also for the entire southwestern region, said the deputy minister for local self-government Ercan Selimi.
Director of the Center for the Development of the Southwest Planning Region, Valjon Kaba, emphasized the multiple benefits of investing in that institution.
"YZU Nephrologia Struga is the only hospital in the southwestern planning region that treats kidney diseases, therefore the implementation of the project that improved the conditions of patient care, as well as the working conditions of the medical staff, is extremely important. This project, together with the reconstruction project of the hospital for heart diseases in Ohrid, the location of the facilities, the natural beauty that surrounds them, largely create the conditions for the development of health tourism in the region", said Kaba.
The value of the entire project is 26,043,286 denars. The Ministry provided 11,324,000 denars, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation participates with 9,200,000 denars, the institution has a financial share of 4,200,000 denars, and the rest are funds from the budget of the municipality of Struga.
