Finally. The Croatian Seismological Service received valuable devices: 'We will be one of the most equipped in Europe'
Accelerographs, digitizers, seismographs, GPS antennas have arrived
The first shipment of new equipment with which Croatian seismologists will be able to monitor seismic activity arrived on Thursday at the Geophysics Department of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (PMF) in Zagreb, the faculty announced.
100 accelerographs, 120 digitizers, 20 seismographs, 220 GPS antennas and 100 protective boxes arrived, which were welcomed at the Seismology Service by project manager Tomislav Fiket, the state secretary in the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property, Sanja Bošnjak, and the director of the Directorate for Science and Technology in the Ministry of Science and Education Hrvoje Meštrić.
It will track ground motion data better
One of the main goals of the CROSSNET project is the installation of 95 new seismological stations throughout Croatia for the purpose of improved monitoring of seismicity in Croatia. The project is fully financed by the European Union through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and is worth HRK 82 million without VAT.
Thanks to this project, Croatia will have one of the best equipped seismological services in Europe, it was said. The task of the device will be to continuously record and store data on ground motion and transfer it to the central system in the Operational Center of the Seismological Service.
The geological diversity of Croatia requires a different approach to setting up seismological stations and is a challenging task. Also, professional data collection and processing systems are being acquired with the aim of complete automation and integration with the Civil Protection system.
