EU invests 12.3 million lei in photovoltaic parks for five localities in Moldova

Five localities in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from photovoltaic parks, thanks to a 12.3 million lei (around €634,000) investment from the European Union. 

The installations will be located in Mereni (Anenii Noi), Coșnița (Criuleni), Lozova (Strășeni), Larga (Briceni), and Sipoteni (Călărași). Each park will have a capacity of up to 200 kW and will be equipped with modern video surveillance systems, perimeter lighting, and security fences, complying with European quality and safety standards.

The initiative will contribute to strengthening local energy security, and is part of the ‘EU4Moldova Resilience: secure state, resilient communities’ project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

The beneficiary localities were selected following a public call for grants launched by the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova in July 2024. Through these investments, communities will be able to produce green energy for their own consumption, reduce local budget expenditures, and contribute to protecting the environment by reducing CO₂ emissions.

In addition, the Smart Villages projects will be implemented in these municipalities to modernise local infrastructure and public services.

Construction and connection to the electricity grid are expected to be completed in September 2025.
