An additional 3.5 million euros of EU support for key reforms and strengthening of the public sector
The support of 3.5 million euros, which was provided from EU funds through the program for the construction of an effective, sustainable and transformative public sector in Montenegro (BEST-Public Sector), is very important for the Government in the development and implementation of medium-term reforms to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the public sector , in accordance with the priorities of our country on the path to EU membership.
Acting Director General for Coordination of EU Financial Support in the Ministry of European Affairs, Bojan Vujović, opened with representatives of the World Bank and the EU Delegation in Montenegro, a workshop where this program, which will be implemented by the World Bank and financed by a grant from the European Union under EU instruments to support reforms.
He assessed that the program will contribute to the implementation of reform activities within the pre-accession process, primarily when it comes to improving the efficiency of the administration and the quality of public services in key sectors such as health, the environment and innovation and entrepreneurship, which were selected based on the impact which have on economic growth.
He particularly emphasized the commitment of the Government and relevant ministries to implement reforms within the negotiation process with the EU, and expressed gratitude to the European Union as the largest donor for the partnership relationship, and to the World Bank for its willingness to implement such a demanding but very important project for Montenegro.
"I am encouraged by the fact that during the upcoming, accelerated phase of accession to the European Union, we will have the support of the World Bank available for the implementation of key reforms that ultimately contribute to the overall transformation of society," emphasized Vujović.
The World Bank's support in the next three-year period aims to support the Government to strengthen key aspects of the public sector and sector management and institutions in Montenegro in accordance with the country's strategic priorities through four components: Functional analyzes and institutional strengthening in key sectors; Strengthening the management of the state enterprises sector; Harmonization of tax administration capacities with the standards of the EU acquis and Improving the modernization of public administration and the use of technologies and online services.
