$950,000 in Non-Repayable Funds Awarded to Eight Top Partner Local Governments within the MEG Project

Based on the progress achieved in the fields of good governance and environmental protection under the Municipal Environmental Governance (MEG) Project over the past 12 months, eight local governments have earned the financial support to implement their environmental infrastructure projects, receiving a total of $950,000 in non-repayable funds.

Among the partner local governments that participated in the first phase of the MEG Project, Prnjavor, Žepče, and Prijedor have successfully qualified for the utilization of non-repayable funds. Additionally, Ilijaš, Laktaši, Šamac, Trebinje, and Orašje, as partner municipalities that joined the MEG Project in the second phase, have also secured the right to access non-repayable funds.

Throughout the past year, the MEG Project has provided intensive technical assistance to its partner local governments to strengthen good governance and environmental protection capacities. Following an independent evaluation, a ranking list of the MEG partner local governments that demonstrated the most significant progress in the specified indicators has been established. The evaluation of the achieved progress was conducted in accordance with the Performance-based Grant Methodology for partner Local Governments developed within the MEG Project, and entirely based on evidence.

These eight local governments, through their dedication and hard work, have earned the access to non-repayable financial support. These funds will be utilized for the implementation of prioritized environmental infrastructure projects outlined in their respective development strategies.

The second phase of the Municipal Environmental Governance Project is currently being implemented across 31 local governments, with joint financing provided by the Governments of Switzerland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, as well as the European Union. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is responsible for implementing the Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
