11 NEW ELECTRIC TRAINS IN CROATIA NOW IN TRAFFIC

The “HŽ Passenger Transport’s rolling stock renewal” project is co-financed from the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020. Just recently, 11 new electric trains in Croatia started running their routes.

As Poslovni writes, as part of the “HŽ Passenger Transport’s rolling stock renewal” project, 11 electric trains for the city and suburban transport are now in traffic. Moreover, the production of 10 trains for regional transport continues. HŽ Putnički Prijevoz (HŽPP) – the Croatian rail transport company announced this on Monday.

The Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020 is co-financing the “HŽ Passenger Transport’s rolling stock renewal” project with new electric trains in Croatia. The total estimated value of the project is 171.7 million euros. The amount provided by the EU is 116.8 million euros.

The delivery of 11 trains for city and suburban and ten trains for regional transport is a part of the project. Therefore, the production of regional trains that will run on electrified railways in the Republic of Croatia continues. Those will run on the routes Zagreb – Novska – Vinkovci – Tovarnik, Zagreb – Sisak – Novska, Zagreb – Koprivnica, Zagreb – Karlovac – Ogulin – Rijeka, Vinkovci – Vukovar and Zagreb – Zabok.

FURTHER ELECTRIC TRAINS IN CROATIA TO SERVE

In the second half of July, the first train for regional transport will be in traffic, according to an announcement from HŽ Putnički Prijevoz. The first trains for the city and suburban transport, which the company Končar-Električna Vozila produces, started their service in December 2022.

The electric trains for the city and suburban transport reach a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. Their regenerative braking system enables the production of electricity to power the train. During the process, excess energy returns to the contact network.

Regenerative braking achieves a return of electricity of about 26 percent of the total energy taken from the grid. This achieves greater energy efficiency, the press release explains.
