With the EU support the solar power plants are being installed at facilities in Požega, Čajetina, Bajina Bašta and Užice

With the support of the European Union (EU), the final works on the installation of solar power plants at the city swimming pool in Užice and the facility of the Public Utility Company (KJP) "Zlatibor" in Čajetina, as well as a green facade at the Tourist and Recreational Complex in Zlatibor are underway. With the EU grant of over 1.3 million Euros, provided through the EU PRO Plus programme, implemented by UNOPS in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, this project will contribute to the green and energy transition in the territory of the city of Užice and the municipalities of Bajina Bašta, Čajetina and Požega.

As part of the project led by the Regional Development Agency (RDA) "Zlatibor", solar panels are also being installed on the building of the agricultural school "Ljubo Mićić" from Požega, which at the end of April received a new, modern nursery for ornamental plants with the aim of maintaining green development and getting children acquainted with and interested in schooling in the profiles of florist - gardener and horticulture technician. A total of 21 types of ornamental plants are planted on the school's yards, while through this EU donation, the school got 2,600 seedlings of different species from the Netherlands, which are intended for decorating parks, urban areas and households. In the coming period, solar power plants will be installed at the sports hall in Bajina Bašta, and in Užice at the building of the former military complex in Krčagovo, and at the National Theatre.

In this way, through the project that resulted from the Territorial strategy of Užice, and municipalities of Bajina Bašta, Požega, Priboj and Čajetina urban area, local self-governments will improve energy efficiency, reduce the usage of fossil fuels while increasing use renewable energy sources by introducing solar installations and green solutions in public buildings and spaces. It is expected that savings for electricity costs in public facilities will amount from 48 to 95 percent, which will improve the environment and establish good practices.

This  is one of 18 integrated projects, derived from territorial strategies, which the European Union supports with more than 9.6 million Euros through the EU PRO Plus.  The EU support to integrated territorial development continues through the EU INTEGRA programme, which since January this year has been implemented by the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities (SCTM) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration.
