First part of Bajgora wind power plant starts trial operation

A third of the 105 MW wind park in Bajgora in Kosovo* is now online, as SoWi Kosovo started the test period. Nine turbines are delivering electricity to the high-voltage network.

After the transmission line was installed a month ago and tested, Selaci 1 has been put into trial operation. Kosovo.Energy reported the first, 35 MW part of the wind power project, backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is now active.

SoWi Kosovo, a joint venture with Israeli and German investors, connected nine turbines purchased from General Electric to the 110 kV overhead cable. The 20-kilometer line was finished in late July.

Total annual output is estimated at 320 GWh, while the system is designed to be operated for at least 25 years

The article adds the 105 MW project in Bajgora near Selac, also called Seljance, is split into three phases. The first part consists of nine generators. The wind park in the municipality of Mitrovica is financed with a EUR 58 million loan from the EBRD. Erste Bank and NLB Group are also participating.

The hub height is 110 meters and the rotor diameter is 137 meters. Annual output is estimated at 320 GWh, while the system is designed to be operated for at least 25 years.

Transmission system operator KOSTT equipped the cables on the overhead transmission line with elements that make them more visible for birds, to avoid collision.

Kosovo’s electric power system still depends 95% on coal in domestic production. The Selaci project in Bajgora is the second wind power plant there. The Kitka facility, of 32.4 MW, came online in 2018. Its owners intend to add 20 MW.

Bondcom Energy Point’s Budakova system is planned to have 46 MW. Another advanced project is for the 100 MW wind farm Çiçavica, developed by Akuo Energy.

Air Energy 2 recently revealed the intention to install two wind power plants of 34.8 MW each. StubllaEnergy is working on a hybrid power plant of 170 MW, of which 132 MW would be in wind turbines.
