The “EU for Social Care” program is helping 14 municipalities in Albania to support children and families from vulnerable groups by improving social care services. Funded by the EU, this three-year program, implemented by UNICEF and World Vision Albania, contributes to a more inclusive Albanian society, in line with the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights – because the EU always stands for solidarity and equal opportunities for all.
At an event held in Tirana, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection through the financial mechanism of the Social Fund announced that it will support an additional 11 municipalities in 2025 in providing the social services basket through the establishment of new services as well as the improvement of existing services for families and individuals in need.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu thanked for the close cooperation with UNICEF – which is contributing to all the reforms of this ministry – as well as the EU which continues to play a key role in the development and increase of social services with its budget support program and technical assistance.
Meanwhile, the European Union ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, present at the meeting, stated that “with our support, children and other vulnerable, marginalized, or discriminated groups in 14 municipalities will have access to improved social services.”
“This is precisely the objective we should keep in mind as Albania progresses towards EU membership – membership is not only about meeting economic criteria but more importantly, about building an inclusive society that is welcoming to all,” said Ambassador Gonzato. (January 10)
